The recently concluded SAT Thailand Volleyball Invitation (ASEAN Grand Prix Leg 1) was a great success. Thailand brought home the gold medal & a whopping US$30,000 (approx. P1.5 Million). Indonesia took the silver medal and US$25,000 (approx. P1.25 Million) while the Philippines settled for the bronze with a $US20,000 (approx. P1 Million) cash. 4th placer, Vietnam did not go home empty handed as they where also given US$15,000 as a consolation prize.
The best spiker, best blocker, best setter, best server and best libero awards were given US$1,000 each while the MVP came with a US$2,000 cash.
It was announced in the SMM Volleyball Channel that there will be no cash prizes in the 2nd leg of the ASEAN Grand Prix which will be held in the Philippines from 4-6 October 2019. However, the organizing committee will shoulder the airfare and accommodation expenses of the participating teams.
It was mentioned that, only in the 1st leg that there had been cash prizes but the travel expenses and the hotel accommodations were shouldered by the participating countries. It was also mentioned that Indonesia & Vietnam might not join the 2nd leg.
